UVA’s Caitlin Cooper Nabs Meet Record on Night Two of 2018 Women’s ACC’s

On the first night of competetion that feauteed individual events, we saw Lousiville’s Mallory Comerford and Sophie Cattermole get first and second in the opening event, the 500 free, while UVA’s Caitlin Cooper took down a meet record in the 50 free.

Tonight’s events included:

  • Women’s 500 Free
  • Women’s 200 IM
  • Women’s 50 Free
  • Men’s 1-meter Diving
  • Women’s 200 Free Relay

Women’s 500 Free

UNC’s Zhada Fields took the B final here with a 4:45.38 followed by Grace Kowal’s 4:46.87 which was good enough for second. N.C. State’s Summer Finke touched third in 4:47.61.

As expected the duo from Louisville took 1-2 in the A final with Mallory Comerford taking the win with a 4:36.09, which earned her an NCAA A Cut. Teammate Sophie Cattermole touched in second with a 4:37.48 while N.C. State’s Hannah Moore earned third in 4:37.51. Taking fourth was Pitt’s Amanda Richey in a 4:39.33 while UVA’s Paige Madden (4:39.77), Duke’s Verity Abel (4:43.08) and UVA’s Cece Williams (4:43.76) followed behind. Notre Dame Freshman Lindsay Stone took eighth in 4:45.67.

Women’s 200 IM

In the C final, Susanna Larochelle out of UNC touched first in 1:59.08 while Notre Dame’s Kyra Sarazen was just .01 behind in 1:59.09. Taking third was fellow ND junior Nikki Smith in a 1:59.81.

N.C. State’s Lindsay Morrow (1:57.51) took the win in the B final with her teammate Jessica Horomanski (1:57.62).

A final winner Duke’s Leah Goldman swam a 1:55.67 while Louisville’s Rachael Bradford-Feldman touched second in 1:55.74 with N.C. State’s Julia Poole (1:55.76) taking third.

Women’s 50 Free

N.C. State’s Elise Haan took the C final with a 22.36 while Louisville’s Avery Braunecker nabbed a B final win with her 22.33.

UVA’s Caitlin Cooper earned herself an NCAA A cut and a meet record with her 21.54. The previous meet record was set this morning by UNC’s Carolina Baldwin (21.89). Louisville’s Casey Fanz and UVA’s Lainey Reed tied for third in a time of 22.07. Taking fifth was Lainey Visscher (22.20) while UVA’s Morgan Hill (22.21), UND’s Carly Quast (22.30) and UVA’s Dina Rommel (22.43) followed to round out the A final.

Men’s 1-meter Diving

UNC freshman Greg Duncan took the win here with a score of 421.05 with Norte Dame’s Joe Coumos taking second with his score of 391.90. Florida State freshman Joshua Davidson took third with 368.20.

Women’s 200 Free Relay

UVA closed out the second night of competition with a win in the 200 free relay by putting together a 1:26.67, which is an NCAA A cut. Louisville was just behind in 1:26.92 while Notre Dame nabbed a third place finish in 1:29.02.
