Utah Swimmming and Diving Adds Three Recruits To 2004-2005 Roster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 28. UTAH Swimming and Diving Head Coach Michael Litzinger has announced the 2003-04 recruiting class. The Utes added three athletes to the team in Kelsey Patterson, Lezah Huff and Nick Philpot. These recruits will join Utah state record holder, Adrienne Coburn, who signed with the team during the early signing period.

Kelsey Patterson from Edmonton, Alberta, will join the Utes as a sophomore transfer. Patterson comes from Auburn University and is expected to have an immediate impact on the Ute diving team. She competed at the NCAA Zone B Championships in 2003, where she finished eighth on the platform (364.85), 13th on the three-meter (460.55) and 18th on the one-meter (497.65). In 2003, she was also a member of the SEC Championship team. "Kelsey will be a major addition to our championship efforts. She is a national level diver coming from the top program in the NCAA. Not only will she help resurrect our women's diving program, but her excellence in the classroom and as a person will be welcome at Utah," comments Litzinger.

Lezah Huff hails from Mesa, Ariz., and arrives at Utah with the potential to be a contender in the breaststroke from the beginning. Huff was the Arizona State High School Champion in the 100 breast in 2001 and a runner-up in 2002 and 2003. She is an All-American in the 100 breast and 200 IM relay. "We are very excited for Lezah to join our program. She is an instant finalist in both breaststroke events in the Mountain West. Her enthusiasm is contagious and we are really looking forward to adding her to our program at Utah," states Litzinger.

Nick Philpot of Salt Lake City, is the lone addition to the men's team. Philpot is a four-time Utah 4A state champion in the 100 and 200 freestyle. He led East High School to its first state team title in 25 years. Both of Nick's parents Cathy and Randy swam at the University of Utah. "Nick committing to the University of Utah is a great coup for us. He is extremely versatile and talented. It is very exciting for us to have a great young man whose best swimming is ahead of him," adds Litzinger.

Adrienne Coburn, who signed during the early signing period, is from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City. Coburn, a 2003 High School All-American in the 200 IM, holds the Utah state record in the 200 IM. Coburn was the 2003 5A Utah High School Swimmer of the Year. Before transferring to Skyline, she earned the 2002 3A Swimmer of the Year at Park City. She will be swimming in the IM, breast and freestyle events for the Utes. "Adrienne is without a doubt the most versatile swimmer to come out of the state in years. She will make an immediate impact on our program, as well as the conference," comments Litzinger.
