Utah Dumps San Jose State, UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Nov. 11. ON Saturday, the Utah women won both of their meets against UC Santa Cruz and San Jose State. In the double dual meet Utah beat UC Santa Cruz 151-86 and also topped San Jose State 133-108. Meanwhile the men won over UC Santa Cruz 142-97.

There was no men's meet between Utah and san Jose State, since SJS dropped its powerful men's swimming team (and track and filed team as well) ostensibly to comply with Title IX.

The Utah women won 13 of 15 events in the double dual meet. Leading the way for the Utes was Neringa Statkeviciute winning the 50 Free (24.43) and the 500 Free (5:04.19). They improved their record to 5-1 (2-0 in conference) topping the most wins ever by the program.

For the men, David Fleisch was a double winner in the 100 Fly (52.65) and the 200 Fly (1:57.50).

Evan Castro also won two events, the 50 Free (21.72) and 100 Breast (57.09).

The Utes won 12 of 15 events and improved its record to 2-2 (0-1 in conference). Utah has now doubled its win total for the last three years.

Both Utah teams travel to Ohio State on November 15, at 5:00 p.m. followed by a meet against Wright State on November 16, at 1:00 p.m.
