USD Beach Cup, Day One

SAN DIEGO, California, January 20. THE University of San Diego women's swim team concluded the first day of competition at the USD Beach Cup in first place with 107 total points through the first six events at USD's Sports Center Pool. Fresno State is in second (88 pts) after day one, followed by Loyola Marymount (72) and Pepperdine (26). The Toreros won four of the six events on the day, including both relays.

The day started when Heather Hippensteel took third in the 3-meter diving competition held at UC San Diego by tallying an overall score of 206.70.

USD then captured the first of their four victories by winning the 200 medley relay when their A relay (K. Deckard, S. Geerdes, K. Stone, J. Kimmel) clocked a time of 1:48.03. In that same race, USD's B relay (T. Noonan, M. Andruzzi, K. Lineback, F. Finucane) came in third with a time of 1:51.53.

In the day's first individual swimming event, Francesca Finucane and Taylor Noonan finished one and two, respectively, in the 500 free. Finucane posted the only sub-five minute time of the race with a 4:59.45, while Noonan came in at 5:05.65.

USD kept the momentum in their favor in the 200 IM as Melissa Andruzzi took home the top spot with a time of 2:07.55. She was followed right behind by Sarah Geerdes, who clocked a 2:08.86.

The 50 free saw Kelly Stone and Jacquie Kimmel finish third and fourth, respectively. Stone put together a time of 24.70, with Kimmel coming in at 24.81.

The Toreros wrapped up the day with a win in the 800 free relay as their A relay (M. Andruzzi, T. Noonan, F. Finucane, S. Geerdes) came in at 7:45.14, followed by their B relay (K. Lineback, K. Deckard, E. Phillips, K. Stone) at 8:05.57.

Day two of the meet begins on Saturday with the first of two sessions set to begin at 10:00 am. The final session will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of session two. Session two will include the following events in this order: 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 400 medley relay, and 1-meter diving. The final session will consist of: 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay.
