USC Women Roll Over San Diego in Dual Meet

LOS ANGELES, California, October 19. SOPHOMORE Andrea Kropp won three times and sophomore Lynette Lim won twice to lead a split-squad USC team to a 157.5-125.5 win over visiting San Diego in a non-conference dual meet at USC on Friday (Oct. 19).
USC, which improved to 2-0 this year, also has eight swimmers competing at the SMU Classic tonight and Saturday.

After opening the meet with a win in the 200y medley relay, freshman Nikki Chang secured the first individual win of the day, claiming the 1000y free (10:09.52). Junior Andrea Basaraba was second (10:13.32) and senior Chelsea Wild completed the sweep in third (10:30.47).

Sophomore Lynette Lim, an All-American as a freshman, won the 200y free in 1:49.97 while senior All-American Christel Simms took second (1:52.91) and senior Kate Shumway finished third (1:53.00).

Senior All-American Yumi So followed with a win in the 100y back in 56.16 while sophomore Ashley Brewer took second (57.82) and San Diego's Sarah Reirson was third (59.79).

Kropp, a 2012 Olympic Trials finalist in the 200y breast who transferred to USC last year, came back with a win in the 100y breast (1:02.32) with senior Jordan Danny second (1:05.34) and San Diego's Sammi Cohn third (1:06.54).

The Toreros next won back-to-back races as Keenan Lineback won the 200y fly in 2:05.54 and Jacquie Kimmel taking the 50y free in 24.25. Wild was second for USC in the 200y fly (2:08.53) while senior All-American Lindsay Parrish and San Diego's Francesca Finucane tied for second in the 50y free (24.66).

In her third race of the meet, Simms won the 100y free in 51.06 with Shumway taking second (52.65) and Kimmel third (52.68).

Brewer won the 200y back in 2:02.90 with So taking second (2:05.79), just out-touching third-place Rierson (2:06.15).

Kropp doubled up with a win in the 200y breast in 2:10.98 while senior Jessica Schmitt finished second (2:12.20). Kropp soon after made it a triple with a win in the 400y IM (4:13.44) while Schmitt was second again in 4:14.09, both with strong early-season times.

Lim also won again, this time in the 500y free with a 4:55.30. Chang took second in 5:01.06, while Lineback was third 5:05.93.

San Diego won the final 400y free relay in 3:31.26 to Troy's 3:33.27.
