USA Water Polo Announces Men’s Youth National Team

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., July 26. USA Water Polo announced the men’s youth national travel team for two European international tournaments in August. The 15 athletes chosen will first travel to Zagreb, Croatia to compete with water polo heavy hitters Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Italy and Greece on Aug. 4-6. At the tournament’s end, the team will move on to Stuttgart, Germany for a second competition against France, Germany and Russia on Aug. 11-13.

“The team we’ve chosen is a hard working group, but they have a lot to learn. This international trip will be extremely educational,” head coach Robert Lynn said. “They will build on their strengths and improve their weaknesses and when they return, their experience in preparation and international competition will benefit their overall understanding of what it will take to prepare and compete individually and collectively at the international and future Olympic levels.”

Selection of the youth national team occurred after a three-week training camp in and around Los Alamitos, Calif., and it consists of boys born in 1989-1990. Thirty boys took part in the training camp from June 30-July 16 and following the Commerce Tournament in Commerce, Calif., the travel roster was selected. Later this year, the team will take part in the NORAMS in Canada on Dec. 27-30.
