USA Water Polo Action Heats Up

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, April 24 THE coming months will be a busy time for the USA Water Polo Senior National Teams as they prepare for the upcoming FINA World League Super Final and World Championships this summer. Both teams will be back in action on US soil for the first time since winning Silver Medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Leading the way is the 1st Annual Fisher Cup held May 22-24 at El Toro and Santa Margarita High Schools in Orange County, California. This event features the Men's Senior National Team divided up into two squads, the Canadian National Team, and the World University Games Team. In addition the event also features a 16 team open tournament including some of the best in club water polo from the United States.

The Women's FINA World League Preliminaries hit Southern California in late May at the United States and Canada tangle for three games. On May 28 the two will get together at the USA Water Polo National Training Center in Los Alamitos, CA at 7:30pm. This will be the first game for new Head Coach Adam Krikorian. From there they will face off again on May 30 at 7pm at Coronado High School in Coronado, CA and once more on May 31 at 4:30pm at Corona del Mar High School in Corona del Mar, CA. On May 30 there will also be a meet and greet with members of the national team, details will be available in the coming weeks.

2008 Olympic participant Montenegro arrives in California as well in late May for a two game set against the Men's Senior National Team. On May 30 the two foes will square off at Oaks Christian High School in Thousand Oaks, California at 3pm. There will be a meet and greet prior to the game. The next day the two will play again at 6pm as part of a doubleheader with the women's team at Corona del Mar High School in Corona del Mar, California.

From there the men's squad heads to Northern California for a three game set with another participant from the 2008 Olympic Games in Serbia. The United States knocked off Serbia in the semi-final round of the Olympics and this series promises more of the same excitement. The matches get started on June 4 at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California at 7pm. After that it's on to the University of California in Berkeley for a 3pm match up on June 6. The set is closed out with a 2pm contest at Stanford University on June 7. A meet and greet with the team will occur before each of these three games approximately two hours before the opening sprint.
