USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Kathleen Hersey Claims 200 Fly

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 3. LONGHORN's Kathleen Hersey used a strong final 50 meters to pull ahead of Palo Alto's Jasmine Tosky for the women's 200 fly title at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.

Hersey posted a time of 2:08.83, well off her 10th-ranked season best of 2:06.89 from Santa Clara. Tosky, the Swimming World Female High School Co-Swimmer of the Year, gave it a go but wound up taking second overall in 2:09.74. Elaine Breeden rounded out the podium with a third-place 2:10.08.

Kim Vandenberg (2:10.59), Teresa Crippen (2:11.46), Alex Forrester (2:12.81), Audrey Lacroix (2:13.07), Lyndsay De Paul (2:13.92), Katherine Mills (2:13.99) and Amanda Nugent (2:14.38) comprised the rest of the championship finale.

Celina Li topped the B final in 2:12.38, while Olivia Barker finished just behind with a 2:12.60. Janet Hu (2:12.76), Courtney Weaver (2:13.88), Kendyl Stewart (2:14.19), Denisa Smolenova (2:14.29), Lindsay Delmar (2:14.73), Megan Kingsley (2:15.38), Ally Howe (2:15.42) and Kelly Nelson (2:16.86) rounded out the heat.

Hali Flickinger snagged the C final win in 2:14.04, while Tanja Kylliainen took second in 2:15.07. Chelsea Chenault (2:15.33), Meredith King (2:16.53), Charlotte Ruby (2:16.58), Amanda Sims (2:16.74), Isla Hutchinson-Maddox (2:16.87), Hayes Hyde (2:17.13), Lydia Jones (2:17.71) and Emma Spilman (2:17.73) placed third through 10th in the heat.
