USA Swimming Winter Nationals: France’s Camille Muffat Crushes Competition in 400 Free

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 1. FRANCE's Camille Muffat crushed the competition in the women's 400 free to start off the 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals held in Atlanta. The meet, typically a short course competition, is taking place in long course meters during an Olympic cycle.

Muffat threw down a sterling time of 4:03.64 for the win, just missing her third-ranked best from this year of 4:03.23 from the Paris Open in June. Leah Smith snared second in the middle distance event with a 4:09.55, while Brittany MacLean touched third in 4:10.33.

Alexa Komarnycky (4:10.89), Nina Rangelova (4:12.21), Samantha Cheverton (4:12.29), Chelsea Chenault (4:13.08), Barbara Jardin (4:13.65), Rachael Burnett (4:14.96) and Elizabeth Beisel (4:15.88) also competed in the finale.

Former Swimming World World Female Swimmer of the Year Laure Manaudou continued her recent comeback to the sport with a B final victory when she clocked a 4:12.02. Savannah King placed second in 4:12.86, while Chelsea Nauta took third in 4:13.73. Swimming World Female High School Co-Swimmer of the Year Jasmine Tosky placed fourth in 4:14.52, while Lindsay Delmar touched fifth in 4:14.66. Jamie Bohunicky (4:15.71), Catherine Breed (4:16.30), Shelley Harper (4:16.32), Leone Vorster (4:16.54) and Melanie Klaren (4:19.24) rounded out the consolation heat.

In the C final, Madison White clinched the win in 4:16.37, while Stephanie Horner finished second in 4:17.22. Shelby Fortin touched third in 4:17.78, while Adrienne Woods earned fourth in 4:18.21. Lauren Lavigna (4:18.77), Bonnie Brandon (4:19.88), Kathryn Woolbright (4:20.52), Madison Jacobi (4:20.73), Lauren Morford (4:21.38) and Allison Brown (4:21.90) also swam in the bonus heat.
