USA Swimming Sectionals, West Lafayette: Third Night Features a Few Close Races

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, July 23. THE third evening of long course meter racing at the USA Swimming Sectionals in West Lafayette featured a few close calls as well as some equally dominant performances.

Northern Kentucky Clipper Caitlyn Forman claimed the women's 100 back title in 1:02.34, while Westerville's Mary McNeilis earned second in 1:02.98. Boilermaker's Allison Smith completed the top three in 1:03.23. Dayton Raider J.K. Koehler snared the men's 100 back crown in 57.42, while Northern Kentucky Clipper Nicholas Kunkel took second in 58.47. Ohio State's Andrew Elliott placed third in 58.51.

Greater Toledo's Jacy Dyer topped the women's 400 free in 4:19.37 with Kingfish's Caroline Arakelian (4:21.70) and Ohio's Amanda Traylor (4:22.10) rounding out the podium spots. Lakeview's Clay Youngquist won the men's 400 free in 3:59.38. Boilermaker's Andrew Starr placed second in 4:03.70, while Lake Erie's Michael Gaudiani touched third in 4:04.04.

Greater Toledo's Laura Lindsay touched out Redhawk's Kelsey Vehr, 1:10.29 to 1:10.48, in the women's 100 breast. Club Wolverine's Julia Andracki took third overall in 1:12.52. Duneland's Kyle Whitaker also won a close contest with a 1:04.51 to 1:04.93 triumph over M.E. Lyons' Nathan Butler in the men's 100 breast. Michigan City's Cameron Miller placed third in 1:05.28.

Kingfish's Madison Wright, 13, snagged the women's 200 fly title in 2:15.09, while Ohio State's Shannon Draves took second in 2:17.00. Lake Erie's Sarah Koucheki finished third in 2:17.19. Ohio State's Quincy Lee won the men's 200 fly in 2:03.24, while Boilermaker's Ben Russell placed second in 2:05.22. Spartan's Richard Forrest wound up third in 2:05.89.
