USA Swimming Sectionals, University Park: Abby Hoisington Sets Meet Record

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania, July 17. ABBY Hoisington downed the first meet record of the weekend at the USA Swimming Sectional held at Penn State University.

Hoisington clocked a time of 1:11.79 in the women's 100 breast to dip under the 1:12.07 set by Alicia Aemisegger in 2007. Annie Zhu, 13, of Laguardia Aquatics wound up second in 1:12.65, while Kerrie Kolackovsky, 15, of Old Westbury took third in 1:13.24.

Kevin Donohue of West Virginia won the counterpart men's 100 breast with a time of 1:04.63. Justin Davidson of Suburban finished second in 1:05.86, while Michael Walker of West Virginia placed third in 1:06.80.

Kaitlin O'Brien opened the night with a winning time of 2:19.79 in the women's 200 IM, while Zhu (2:20.58) and Kelly Nelson (2:23.35) rounded out the top three.

Walker grabbed the men's 200 IM in 2:08.07 with Kenny McCormick (2:10.54) and Steve Kustra (2:11.13) of Jewish Community went 2-3.

Lindsey Deforrest led a Penn State 1-2-3 with a time of 57.73 in the women's 100 free. Megan Steeves (57.91) and Michelle Myers (58.25) completed the podium sweep.

Suburban's John McGinley touched out Vincent Reydams, 51.91 to 51.94, in the men's 100 free. Jon Cochrane claimed third in 52.56.

In the distance events, Courtney Otto, 15, of Star Swimming won the women's 1500 free in 16:59.40. Lindsay Vrooman, 16, of Pine Richland placed second in 17:14.00, while Hayley Edwards, 17, of GCIT Swimming earned third in 17:14.05.

Dan O'Connor, 16, of Syracuse Charger snagged the men's 800 free in 8:28.78. Preston Wolter of Retriever Aquatics placed second in 8:33.88, while Michael Thomas, 16, of North Baltimore finished third in 8:35.49.
