USA Swimming Sectionals, Orlando: Ryan Lochte Posts Impressive Double on Second Night

ORLANDO, Florida, March 14. DURING the second night of competition at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Orlando, Ryan Lochte completed a double victory in the 200 free and 100 fly to grab center stage at the meet.

Women's Meet
Jamie Bohunicky of Gator Swim eased through the 200 free to the title in 2:02.23, while Anne Poleska of Coral Springs broke the meet record in the 100 breast as she cleared the 1:10 threshold. Poleska's time of 1:09.99 wiped out the 1:10.50 set by Ashley Roby in 1998. Vipa Bernhardt nearly cleared the record as well with a second-place 1:10.91.

Young Chelsea Britt, 13, of Fort Lauderdale ripped through the 100 fly with a winning time of 1:02.12. That knocked off Leila Vaziri of Coral Springs, who finished second in 1:02.95. Erika Erndl of Swim Florida then dominated the 400 IM with a four-second triumph with a time of 4:53.74.

Swim Florida's 800 free relay team of Stephanie Peacock, Maida Turnadzic, Amy Modglin and Erndl finished the day with a victory in a time of 8:27.79.

Men's Meet
Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach destroyed his own meet record in the 200 free when he cruised to a win in 1:47.32. That cleared his old time of 1:48.74 set last year at the meet.

Another heavy hitter, Vlad Polyakov of Coral Springs, came up just short of his meet record when he touched first in 1:02.81 in the 100 breast. His standard came with a 1:02.35 a year ago.

Lochte then doubled up on the day with a crushing victory in the 100 fly. He clocked a swift time of 52.86 to demolish the meet record of 54.22 set by Kohei Kawamoto in 2005. Meanwhile, Kaio Almeida placed second in 53.22.

Mike Joyce concluded the individual swims for the men with a 400 IM title in a time of 4:28.25.

Finally, the Brandon Sports foursome of Vincent Donnelly, Evan Marcus, Tyler Ball and Eric Moore won the 800 free relay in 7:53.68.
