USA Swimming Sectionals, Mount Hood: Missy Franklin, Rory Buck Set Meet Records

MOUNT HOOD, Oregon, July 23. A pair of long course meter records fell during the fourth night of the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Mount Hood.

Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin, 15, lowered the meet record in the women's 100 back with a top time of 1:01.23. That swim beat the record of 1:01.25 set by Noriko Inada last year. Lake Oswego's Grace Carlson, 14, finished second in 1:03.77, while teammate Karen Turner, 16, took third in 1:04.24.

Spokane Waves' Rory Buck downed the meet record in the men's 100 breast with a time of 1:03.38. That performance eclipsed the 1:04.07 set by John Baque a year ago. Pueblo's Tanner Krall placed second in 1:04.32, while Denver Swim Academy's Jun Han Kim finished third in 1:04.74.

KING's Megan Jendrick snatched the women's 100 breast in 1:08.50, while Colorado Stars' Christine Wixted (1:10.93) and Kelly Naze, 16, (1:11.34) completed the podium. Swim Utah's Major Robinson claimed the men's 100 back in 58.25, while Spokane Area's Nick Blank finished second in 58.87. DU Hilltopper Kyle Milberg earned third in 58.91.

DU Hilltopper Mackenzie Stein, 16, touched out Colorado Stars' Jordan Mattern, 4:18.71 to 4:18.78, in the women's 400 free. North Jeffco's Abigail Houck, 15, took third in 4:22.62. Colorado Stars' Patrick Scally captured the men's 400 free in 4:00.92, while Mount Hood's Brett Nagle took second in 4:01.12. Greenwood's Alex Reinhardt finished third in 4:02.40.

Naze earned her second podium with a winning time of 59.96 in the women's 100 fly. Issaquah's Kathryn Kinnear, 15, took second in 1:01.03, while Franklin also picked up her second podium with a third-place 1:02.26. Tucson Ford's Masayu Kishida dominated the men's 100 fly in 52.53, while Arizona Marlin Chris Pickard touched a distant second in 55.65. Tri-City Channel's Cody Roberts pocketed third-place honors in 55.71.
