USA Swimming Sectionals, Long Beach: Fourth Night in the Books

LONG BEACH, California, December 21. THE fourth night of short course yards swimming is in the bag at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Long Beach, Calif.

Lyndsay DePaul opened up the night with a winning time of 1:58.25 in the women's 200 IM. Jasmine Tosky finished second in 2:00.15, while Melissa Bates took third in 2:02.26. Hidemasa Sano pocketed the men's 200 IM title in 1:45.12, while Cody Miller placed second in 1:50.05. Young Tae Seo grabbed third in 1:51.49.

Alexandra Whitford raced to victory in the women's 50 free with a 23.27, beating Bates by the slimmest of margins. Bates touched second in 23.28. Kathryn Murphy wound up third overall in 23.33. Vlad Morozov cleared 20 seconds in the men's 50 free with a winning time of 19.91. Garrett Thompson placed second in 20.60, while Philip Geerdes earned third in 20.74.

Catherine Breed touched first in the women's 500 free with a 4:46.28. Melanie Klaren garnered second in 4:46.62, while Tristin Baxter completed the top three in 4:46.76. Men's 500 free results were not made available by meet management.

Palo Alto's Ally Howe, Tosky, Alicia Grima and Anne Peanasky won the women's 400 free relay in 3:24.25, while De Anza Cupertino's Joshua Chen, Patrick Shultz, Erich Peske and Shayne Fleming picked up the men's 400 free relay title in 3:04.86.
