USA Swimming Sectionals, Indianapolis: Eric Ress Rattles Meet Record

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 27. THE third evening of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Indianapolis nearly witnessed another meet record.

Eric Ress nearly cleared the meet record in the men's 100 back with a 56.47. Nick Thoman held onto his mark of 56.39 set back in 2004. Minnetonka's David Plummer finished second in 56.58, while IU's Ante Zoricic placed third in 58.20.

Carmel's Lauren Jordan won the women's 400 free in 4:23.35, while Maverick's Megan Gallagher touched second in 4:23.92. Kingfish's Carol Arakelian took third in 4:24.41. Indiana's Titus Knight topped the men's 400 free in 3:59.67. Teammate Illya Larin placed second in 3:59.98, while Jimmy Barbiere claimed third in 4:01.97.

Center Grove's Emma Schoettmer touched out Birmingham's Anne Lazor, 1:11.15 to 1:11.37, in the women's 100 breast. Greater Columbus' Andrea Cottrell completed the top three in 1:13.71. The men's 100 breast featured an exciting finish with three swimmers in the hunt at the touch. Oakland Live Y'er Matt McNamara surfaced triumphant with a 1:06.85. Carmel's John Stuy earned second in 1:06.86, while Michigan's David Moore took third in 1:06.98.

Oakland Live Y'er Megan Fox claimed the women's 200 fly in 2:16.98. Kingfish's Madison Wright, 13, finished second in 2:17.06, while Kally Fayhee rounded out the top three in 2:17.89. Indiana went 1-2 in the men's 200 fly. Tyler Shedron won in 2:07.03, while teammate Samuel Trahin placed second in 2:07.16. Carmel's Michael Vinyard wound up third in 2:08.85.

Results from the women's 100 back and the men's 800 free relay were not reported.
