USA Swimming Sectionals, Houston: Texas’ Best in Action

HOUSTON, Texas, July 17. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Houston featured some of the top Lone Star State talent.

Lost Creek's Mary Beck earned her second title in as many nights. After winning the 200 back last night, she stopped the clock in 2:01.80 in the women's 200 free for the win. Cypress Fairbanks' Traci Van Matre finished second in 2:03.20 with First Colony's Colleen Gordon taking third in 2:03.88. Longhorn's Scott Jostes completed the same second title finish with a 1:50.60 in the men's 200 free after taking the 200 back last night. Cypress Fairbanks' Neil Caskey took second in 1:51.87 with Katy's Timothy Jones completing the podium in 1:53.73.

The Woodlands' Gabby Maddalena snatched the women's 400 IM in 4:56.79. Magnus' Erica Belcher finished second in 4:59.42, while Cypress Fairbanks' Catherine Wagner took third in 4:59.49. Houston's Mark Grijalva captured the men's 400 IM in 4:37.04. First Colony's Eric Ahrns wound up second in 4:38.73 with Pack's Jason Bell placing third in 4:39.17.

The 800 free relay concluded the night. The Woodlands' Erin Sosdian, Kelsey Amundsen, Liz Nelson and Shaunna Purtell won the women's crown in 8:24.47. Cypress Fairbanks' Ross Johnson, Cole Cragin, John Wagner and Jonathan Edward took the men's title in 7:46.26.
