USA Swimming Sectionals, Gresham: Tualatin Hills Takes Down Section Record in Men’s 800m Free Relay

GRESHAM, Oregon, July 26. TUALATIN Hills grabbed the first Section record of the competition, while the DU Hilltoppers continued to lead the team race as the third day of racing concluded in Oregon.

Gold Medal Swim Club's Leticia Lelli opened up her lead on the final 50m of the women's 200m free en route to a solid victory in 2:01.96. Bearcat's Tori Simenec claimed second in 2:02.85, while Megan Cox of Scottsdale Aquatics placed third in 2:04.49. The men's 200m free victory went to Logan Storie of Corvallis Aquatics, as he hit the touch pads first in 1:52.31. Adam Kalms of Wyoming was right behind in 1:52.43. Aces' Jared Markham rounded out the top three in 1:53.40.

North Jeffco's Madeline Myers dropped three seconds off her preliminary time to win the women's 400m IM in 4:56.18, two seconds ahead of Fort Collins' Bailey Nero (4:58.27). Briana Jurries of Gold Medal came in third with a 4:59.63. Myers' teammate at North Jeffco, Andrew Chevalier, took home the men's title in 4:26.31, with DU Hilltopper Darian Brunetti in second at 4:27.34. Nolan Tesone, also of North Jeffco, placed third in 4:28.06.

The first Section record of the meet finally fell in the men's 800m free relay, at the hands of Tualatin Hills' Gabriel Rooker, Aaron Young, Neil O'Halloran and Cameron Stitt. Their time of 7:38.60 obliterated the previous record of 7:43.94 set by the DU Hilltoppers in 2009. Wyoming (7:39.15) and the DU Hilltoppers (7:39.25) also finished under the previous record. Results of the women's 800m free relay were not available.

Through 20 events, the DU Hilltoppers lead with 628 points, while North Jeffco has moved into second with 399.5. Phoenix Swim Club is now third with 359.
