USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Distance Events, Sprint Relays Open First Night

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, March 18. THE first night of long course meter swimming concluded at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Mexico's Patricia Castaneda claimed the women's 1500 free title in 16:43.42, while Little Rhody's Stephanie Nasson took second overall in 16:58.34. Mexico's Zaira Cardenas completed the top three in 17:13.13. Metro Aquatic's Carlos Omana grabbed the men's 800 free crown in 8:18.06, while Mexico's Daniel Delgadillo earned second in 8:20.50. Mexico's Arturo Ferrar clocked an 8:21.94 for third.

The sprint relays followed with Team Florida's Lauren Driscoll, Catherine Parker, Fallon Fitzpatrick and Harper Bruens taking the women's 200 medley relay in 2:02.69. Davies Nadadores' relays were disqualified for using ineligible athletes, so Team Florida's Alejandro Escudero, Ryan Rosenbaum, Charles Williams and Andres Reyes-Capo won the men's 200 medley relay in 1:50.55.

Team Florida's Bruens, Driscoll, Damaris Iriondo and Alexandria Sutton won the women's 200 free relay in 1:49.19. Metro's Stephen Lichtner, Julian Ballestas, Kevin Barona and Carlos Omana topped the men's 200 free relay with a 1:38.81 after Davies was disqualified.
