USA Swimming Sectionals, Columbia: Elizabeth Smith, Shara Stafford Set Records

COLUMBIA, Missouri, July 25. THE final evening of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals in Columbia, Mo., showcased a few region record performances.

Parkway's Elizabeth Smith lowered her listed region record in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:16.23. The time cleared her mark of 2:18.23 set in 2007. Topeka's Shara Stafford finished second in 2:17.45 also under the old standard. Rockwood's Haley Spencer placed third in 2:18.63.

Kansas City Blazer Bobby Bollier touched out teammate Kevin Webster, 2:05.11 to 2:05.32, in the men's 200 IM. Tsunami's Jason King completed the top three in 2:08.02.

Hawgs' Jamie Marks clinched the women's 1500 free in 17:03.38. Teammate Alison Templin finished second in 17:20.37, while Columbia's Allison Boyle claimed third in 17:23.59.

Tsunami's Ty Fowler, 14, topped the men's 1500 free in 16:09.44. Rockwood's Garin Marlow placed second in 16:26.41 with Kansas City Blazer Ben Bravence earning third in 16:27.60.

Stafford returned in the women's 50 free with a 25.66 for the win. The performance cleared the listed region record of 25.69 set by Samantha Woodward last year. Mizzou's Lisa Nathanson finished second in 25.86 with Rockwood's Lauren Votava snaring third in 26.43.

Mizzou's Jordan Hawley won the men's 50 free in 23.05, while Heartland's Ryan Bubb placed second in 23.49. Kansas City Blazer Zach Brolin touched third in 23.70.
