USA Swimming Sectionals, College Station: Meet Records Galore on Second Day

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, February 29. THE second day of long course swimming continued with a vengeance at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Station, Texas as meet records tumbled throughout the night.

Allison Arnold, 15, of the Dallas Mustangs added the 400 free title to her victory in the 1500 last night when she clocked a winning time of 4:21.31. That beat second-place finisher Maureen McLaine, 16, of COPS. Tenori Enriquez, 17, of Nuevo Leon smashed the meet record in the men's 400 free when he touched in 4:01.05. That time eclipsed the 4:02.70 set by John Kendrick in 2004.

Ellen Lobb, 16, touched out Kirstie Chen, 15, of the La Mirada Armada, 2:18.48 to 2:18.79, to capture the women's 200 back, while Dallas Mustang Matt Thompson demolished the meet record in the men's 200 back with a 2:03.63. The previous standard of 2:07.00 was set by Raul Lopez in 2004.

Genny Konicke, a Swimming World four-star recruit representing COPS and heading to the University of Arizona, held off First Colony's Kris Kontrimas, 58.15 to 58.38, for the women's 100 free title.

Balazs Makany erased the meet record in the men's 100 free with a time of 50.45. That readout surpassed the 51.64 set by Matt Weghorst in 2004.

Jaclin Rehring, 17, of COPS touched out Chen, 2:18.26 to 2:18.79, to win the women's 200 fly and drop the previous meet record of 2:19.65 set by Lindsay Kenney in 2004. Chen is nothing if not consistent as she clocked the same time in both the 200 back and 200 fly.

Neil Caskey, a Swimming World five-star recruit representing Cy-Fair and attending the University of Texas next fall, nipped the meet record of 2:03.56 set by future Longhorn teammate Dan Rohleder in 2004.
