USA Swimming Sectionals, Clovis: Bryan Haile, Erich Peske Set Meet Records

CLOVIS, California, July 26. DURING the final day of long course meter pool swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Clovis, Calif., a pair of meet records took a tumble. The meet will conclude tomorrow with 5K open water events.

La Mirada's Jessica Marsh opened the night with a 17:09.19 to win the women's 1500 free. Crow Canyon's Taylor Nanfria placed second in 17:11.05 with teammate Delise Batiza finishing third in 17:18.33. Boulder City's Zane Grothe topped the men's 1500 free in 15:36.54, while Arden Hills' Michael Franz touched second in 15:55.39. Santa Clara's Jackson Partin took third in 15:57.06.

Terrapins' Presley Bard won the women's 100 back in 1:03.27, while Aquazot Melanie Klaren placed second in 1:04.16. Palo Alto Stanford's Ally Howe earned third in 1:04.49. Rose Bowl's Shane Tusup claimed the men's 100 back in 58.16. Arden Hills' Kevin Ferguson finished second in 58.23 with Class' Chase Bloch taking third in 58.28.

Monrovia's Angela Haven touched out Terrapins' Allison Gargalikis, 1:11.94 to 1:11.97, for the women's 100 breast title. Trojan's Ella Kidron took third in 1:12.16. Riverside's Bryan Haile set the meet record in the men's 100 breast with a 1:02.59. The readout cleared the 1:03.61 set by Cheyne Bloch in 2007. Orinda's Dustin Luchini finished second in 1:05.44, while Canyons' Nicholas Korth finished in a third-place tie with Rancho San Dieguito's Keegan Groot with matching 1:05.85s.

NorCal's Katelyne Herrington claimed the women's 100 fly in 1:01.16, while Sandpiper Olivia Barker, 14, touched second in 1:01.46. Ripon's Kathryn Davey placed third in 1:02.08. De Anza Cupertino's Erich Peske and Palo Alto Stanford's Peter Davis both surpassed the meet record in the men's 100 fly. John Dwelley set the mark with a 55.01 in 2007. Peske beat Davis to the wall, 54.22 to 54.75. Slo Seahawks' Zack Strumbell completed the top three in 55.85.
