USA Swimming Sectionals, Buffalo: Christoph Grimmett-Norris Doubles; 12-Year-Old Cassidy Bayer Wins Second Event

BUFFALO, New York, August 4. CURL Burke's Christoph Grimmett-Norris won two events tonight, while his 12-year-old teammate, Cassidy Bayer, won her second event of the meet. Leah Smith of the Jewish Community Center also picked up her third win as the third day of racing in Buffalo concluded.

Twelve-year-old Curl Burke swimmer Cassidy Bayer wowed the crowd again with her second win of the meet in the women's 200m fly. Bayer, who won the 100m fly last night, posted the fastest final 50m of the entire field to hit the wall in 2:15.02. Schenectady's Amy Bopp held on for second in 2:15.88, while Towson's Melanie Rowland picked up third in 2:16.04. Curl Burke swept the fly events, as Christoph Grimmett-Norris won the men's race in 2:03.85. Jewish Community Center's Jonathan Seiferth stayed with Grimmett-Norris for most of the race before touching second in 2:04.23. Benjamin Southern, also of Curl Burke, took third in 2:05.50.

The women's 100m back title went to Western Kentucky's Alexandra Duff in 1:03.46, her second win of the competition. Hellen Moffitt of Curl Burke touched about half a second behind in 1:03.98. Fox Chapel Killer Whales' Margaret Gruber held off two other swimmers to finish third in 1:04.37. In the closest race of the meet so far, Upper St. Clair's Ryan Dudzinski barely held off Curl Burke's Charles Putnam, winning the men's race by the slimmest of margins, 58.31 to 58.32. Ryan Gordon of the Albany Starfish wound up third in 58.96.

Leah Smith of the Jewish Community Center brought home her third title of the weekend, winning the women's 400m free by a landslide in 4:12.72 over Towson's Kaitlin Burke (4:18.63). Germantown's Taylor O'Brien rounded out the top three in 4:18.67. Christoph Grimmett-Norris won his second event of the night after recording the fastest time in the men's 400m free at 4:03.53. Towson's Zach Stone stopped the clock in 4:04.59 to take second, ahead of Long Island Aquatic Club's Michael Lennon (4:06.00).

The 800m free relays closed out the night. SoNoCo earned another victory in the women's event, as Gabrielle Daigenault, Kristina Tougas, Haley Sinatro and Taylor Friedmann swam an 8:30.73. Machine Aquatics' Hugh Anderson, Douglas Natal, James Murphy and Daniel Camozzo posted a 7:44.92 to top the men's field.

Curl Burke leads the women's team standings with 285 points, with Long Island Aquatic Club in second with 178.5. In the men's standings, Curl Burke has racked up 370 points, 100 ahead of Machine Aquatics (270).
