USA Swimming Opens Purdue Invitational After Indianapolis Grand Prix Closes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, February 15. AFTER the Indianapolis Grand Prix closed at a competitor cap of 800 entries, USA Swimming elected to host a second "Grand Prix quality" meet the same weekend at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., March 29-31.

USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch announced the move in a letter sent out to coaches and athletes earlier today.

"We understand the frustration of club coaches and athletes who attempted to submit entries to the 2011-12 Grand Prix series but were turned away," Busch wrote. "We are anxious to address the difficulties we have had accommodating entries this Olympic year and to make sure that the focus and scope of the Grand Prix Events are well-articulated going forward."
