USA Swimming Open Water Nationals: Fran Crippen, Kirsten Groome Take Titles

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, August 5. FRAN Crippen of Mission Viejo and Kirsten Groome of First Colony walked away with the USA Swimming Open Water 10K national titles this weekend. The races were held in Minneapolis' Lake Harriett with four laps at 2.5K each.

Crippen led a Mission Viejo 1-2 in the men's 10K with a time of 1:58:41.45. Teammate Deni Cullom placed second in 1:59:11.66. Joe Kinderwater of WSY Swimming snagged third in 1:59:13.14.

Groome, meanwhile, claimed the women's crown in 2:03:25.68. Eva Fabian of Greenwood Memorial took second in 2:03:37.82, while Christine Jennings of Minnesota finished third in 2:05:15.09.
