Heats Sheets For Day Three Prelims At USA Swimming Nationals Available

Sign at 2014 nationals

GREENSBORO – Friday’s prelim session at the USA Swimming nationals will be another opportunity for college swimmers to post fast times to close out the first half of the season, while postgrads and high school swimmers will be looking to earn some wins at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Katie Ledecky and Nathan Adrian are both entered in the 200 freestyle. That’s not a surprise for Ledecky, the 2014 Pan Pacific champion in the event, but it is a bit of a surprise to see Adrian among those in heat 11. Besides last month’s Arena Grand Prix, Adrian has not swum the event since 2010. But as Adrian said in his interview after winning the 50 free tonight, it’s another racing opportunity. Adrian posted a 1:34.87 at the Grand Prix meet last month, and that could challenge for the win at nationals.

Adrian will have to contend with four Ohio State swimmers in his prelim heat, as well as plenty of 200 freestyle specialists in other heats for a place in the final. Michael Wynalda, now a postgrad for Club Wolverine, is the top seed with a 1:32.14.

The prelim session begins at 9 a.m. Eastern time, with separate pools used for each gender.
