COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Mark Schubert and Richard Quick will serve as the head coaches for the 2000 U.S. Olympic swim team, USA Swimming announced today.

Schubert, 49, of Seal Beach, Calif., and the University of Southern California, will be serving on his sixth straight U.S. Olympic coaching staff–one appointment shy of the George Haines’ record of seven from 1960-1984. Schubert is the winningest club coach in USA Swimming history, earning a record 63 U.S. National team titles.

Quick, 55, of Menlo Park, Calif., and Stanford University, will be serving on his fifth straight U.S. Olympic team coaching staff. He was the head coach for both teams in 1988 and was the head women’s coach in 1996. At the University of Texas and now Stanford, Quick-coached teams have won 11 of the 14 NCAA team trophies.
