USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Matt McLean Posts Personal Best to Win 400 Free

PALO ALTO, California, August 2. SNOW's Matt McLean posted a personal best in the men's 400 free en route to capturing his first national title at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

McLean clocked a 3:47.33 to move to 14th in the world rankings. That swim made him the second-fastest American this year in the event, behind only Peter Vanderkaay's 3:44.83 from the FINA World Long Course Championships last week. Vanderkaay stands fifth in the world with the time.

FAST's Michael Klueh checked in with a second-place time of 3:48.48, while Charlie Houchin put up a 3:48.84 for third overall.

Club Wolverine's Matt Patton (3:49.24), The Woodlands' Michael McBroom (3:49.94), Longhorn's Jackson Wilcox (3:51.02), Scenic's Sean Ryan (3:51.48), Delaware's Andrew Gemmell (3:52.24), Pilot's Evan Pinion (3:53.21) and Club Wolverine's Connor Jaeger (3:54.51) also competed in the championship finale.

Ryan Feeley turned in a 3:51.23 to top the B final, while NBAC's Andrew Cosgarea put up a 3:54.80 to capture the C final.
