USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Elizabeth Beisel Dominates 400 IM

PALO ALTO, California, August 4. LESS than a week off her world title in the women's 400 IM in Shanghai, Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel dominated the event at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals

Beisel cruised to a winning effort of 4:34.78, which is the fourth-fastest this year, behind her top-ranked time of 4:31.78, Hannah Miley (4:34.22) and Stephanie Rice (4:34.23). Along with a 4:34.95 from prelims of Worlds, Beisel now has three of the top seven times this year. Beisel swept the IM national titles this year after winning the 200 IM on the first day of competition.

Stanford's Maya Dirado captured second with a 4:37.88 to grab 10th in the world rankings, while Aggie's Natalie Adams finished third in 4:42.99. Indiana's Allysa Vavra (4:43.98), Stanford's Andi Taylor (4:44.28), Stanford's Julia Smit (4:44.35), Trojan's Haley Anderson (4:44.37), Germantown's Teresa Crippen (4:44.96), ASK's Dagny Knutson (4:46.02) and SwimAtlanta's Amber McDermott (4:46.18) also swam in the finale.

Trojan's Lyndsay De Paul dominated the B final with a 4:40.67, nearly five seconds ahead of SwimAtlanta's Jana Manigmelli (4:45.24) and Florida's Lauren Driscoll (4:45.25). De Paul jumped into 19th in the world with the swim. Meanwhile, York's Hali Flickinger nabbed the C final win with a time of 4:44.15, more than four seconds ahead of Pleasanton's Celina Li (4:48.18).
