USA Swimming Elects to Ban High Tech Suits in Age Group Swimming

ATLANTA, Georgia, September 27. ACCORDING to an article in the Washington Post, USA Swimming delegates at the United States Aquatic Sports convention held in Atlanta, Ga., elected to ban high tech suits for age group swimmers 12 years old and younger.

The move had been expected within the swimming community since the NCAA banned the suits in collegiate competition. Concerns about the age group move began when the NCAA rescinded that ban earlier this month.

Regardless, delegates in Atlanta chose to move forward with the age group legislation.

"We're in a position where we want to grow participation in our sport," USA Swimming's Club Development Director Pat Hogan told Washington Post. "We don't need to have false barriers to participation. The cost of those high-tech swim suits, for a young swimmer, doesn't really make sense."
