USA Swimming Announces Staff Additions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, March 12. USA Swimming is pleased to announce the hiring of three exceptionally talented people to its staff. Rick Bishop, who began in February, joins the staff as a Sport Performance Consultant. Jack Roach will serve as a Technology Services Coordinator, while Kim Matz will act as the Sports Medicine Coordinator.

Bishop comes to USA Swimming from Jacksonville, Fla., where he was the head coach of the Bolles Prep School and club team. During his accomplished 20-year coaching career, he experienced success with the Mass Bay marlins, Memphis Tiger Swimming and the Clearwater Aquatic Team, as his teams have won state high school titles in both Tennessee and Florida. His 2007 Bolles School team finished second in combined scoring at the USA Swimming Spring Nationals. Bishop has also coached international teams at the Pan American Games, World Championships as well as the Olympics.

"Bishop is an outstanding club coaching who brings international games experience and a strong background in exercise sciences to our staff," Ira Klein, Director of Field Services, said. "He is an excellent addition and should prove invaluable in the years to come."

Roach will make the move from San Louis Potosi where he was the Director of Aquatics and Head Coach at La Loma Altitude Training Center. With more than 30 years of coaching experience, Roach has coached Olympic medalists, as well as multiple US and Mexican national champions. Prior to coaching at the Altitude Training Center, Roach served as the head coach Longhorn Aquatics, as well as the women's assistant coach at the University of Texas. He was also the head age group coach for the Mission Bay Makos Swim Team in Boca Raton, Fla.

Already a member of the USOC family, Matz formerly served at the Sport Performance Apprentice at the Olympic Training Center. There, she performed physiological testing on a variety of sports including triathlon, modern pentathlon, track and field, disabled alpine ski, women's ice hockey, and women's water polo. A former collegiate swimmer and rower, she was also employed by USA Triathlon in the Coaching Education department and coached swimming at the club, high school, and collegiate levels.

Special thanks to the USA Swimming for contributing this report.
