USA Looking for Top Jewish Swimmers for Pan Am Maccabi Team

PEHILADELPHIA, Penn., May 13. MACCABI USA is gearing up for the 10th Pan Am Maccabi Games, to be held in Santiago, Chile, from December 24, 2003 – January 5, 2004.

Today, the organization announced it is looking for fast Jewish swimmers to represent Team USA and it announced the appointment of Barry Roffer as head swim coach. Roffer is head coach of Three Village Swim Team on Long Island New York.

It is expected that 2,000 athletes, representing 20 nations, will participate in the Games. Israel may also bring some athletes.

The US is looking at fielding a team of approximately 20-24 swimmers for the Open/National team and approxximately the same number for the Junior squad. To be eligible for the Junior team, swimmers must have been born in 1986-89. There will also be a Masters Team for all internationally-recognized age groups (beginning at 25-29).

The U.S. team will be selected no later than August 1.
