USA Junior Nationals: Three More Meet Records Fall During Day Three

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 8. AFTER watching six meet records fall on the second night of competition at the Speedo Junior National Championships held at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI, three more toppled on the third day of swimming.

Women's 200 freestyle
Claire Thompson of West Florida Lightning Aquatics surfaced from a trio of 2:02 times with the winning effort of 2:02.32. Gator Swim Club's Jamie Bohunicky finished second in 2:02.59, while Memphis Thunder's Lindsey Brackens rounded out the top three in 2:02:94.

Men's 200 freestyle
Atlantis Aquatics' Kevin McCarthy led from the get-go to touch first in 1:52.62. Mecklenburg Aquatics' Thomas Santoli finished second in 1:53.08, while Lake Forest Swim Club's Conor Dwyer nabbed third in 1:53.18.

Women's 400 IM
Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel knocked a chunk of time off the meet record with a readout of 4:48.25. The performance eclipsed the 4:51.32 set by Jessica Schmitt in 2005. Second-place finisher, Lyndsay De Paul of Aquazot, also cleared the meet standard with a time of 4:51.14. Kirstie Chen of the La Mirada Armada claimed third in 4:52.13 as the top three swimmers separated themselves completely from the pack.

Men's 400 IM
Dallas Mustang Matt Thompson clipped Tyler Clary's meet record of 4:26.42 set in 2005 by the slimmest of margins as Thompson hit the wall in 4:26.41. Curl-Burke's Andy Brake finished in a solid second with a clocking of 4:27.50, while Palo Alto Stanford's Ben Hinshaw placed third in 4:29.83.

Women's 800 freestyle relay
Sun Devil Aquatic's team of Haley Krakowski, Angela Duckworth, Danielle Caldwell and Nicole McAndrew won in 8:23.41, while Berkeley Aquatic Club's foursome of Jillian Altenburger, Alexi Kuska, Kathryn Toth and Lauren Ross took second in 8:24.53. Dallas Mustangs Lauren Roth, Allison Arnold, Catia Weickgenant and Meredith Monroe wound up third in 8:25.88.

Men's 800 freestyle relay
Mecklenburg Aquatic's squad of Jared White, Ryan Marklewitz, Ben Correll and Thomas Santoli won with a meet-record time of 7:36.67, while Tucson Ford's Kurt Denninghoff, Ben Aaberg, Bobby Koubratoff and Adrian Kirkpatrick touched second in 7:38.00. Barracuda's quartet of Gabe Strickler, Tony Wahl, Morgan Priestley and Brad Craig rounded out the top three in 7:41.59.
