USA Diving To Present Annual Awards at Winter Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, September 16. THE USA Diving annual award ceremony will not take place until December at the winter nationals, the organization announced this weekend.

USA Diving said the move to later in the year reflects the reality that many of the award recipients are not able to attend the United States Aquatic Sports Convention. Though the Athlete of the Year award is typically the most prestigious among the awards given out by USA Diving annually, the coaching and volunteer awards also deserve public recognition beyond a small group of delegates who attend the convention.

“We believe our award winners should have the honor of receiving their awards in front of their peers — many of whom will be at winter nationals but not at convention,” said USA Diving in a statement.

In 2012, David Boudia was honored as Athlete of the Year after winning gold in platform diving at the London Olympics. With Boudia sitting out this year, USA Diving will be reading a different name to join the elite group of names as the best of the year.
