USA Diving Presents Annual Awards

DEARBORN, Michigan, September 19. THE awards news keeps flowing out of the USAS Convention held in Dearborn, Mich., over the past week. This time, USA Diving has announced its annual honors.

Troy Dumais claimed the USA Diving Athlete of the Year accoladed based on a gold in the synchronized three-meter (with Mitch Richeson) and silver in the individual three-meter at the Kaiser Permanente National Championships. He also garnered silver in the synchro three-meter with Richeson at the FINA World Cup as well as bronze in the individual competition. He continued with a silver in the synchro three-meter with Richeson and a bronze in the individual three-meter at the Grand Prix. Finally, he took bronze in the synchro three-meter with Richeson at the China Open.

Drew Johansen of U.S. Elite Diving garnered the Mike Peppe Award presented to the outstanding senior diving coach, while Jared Book, a member of the USA Diving Finance Committee since 1978 and a trustee for the U.S. Diving Foundation since 1990, earned the Glenn McCormick Award for outstanding contributions to the sport.

Bob Gunter of The Woodlands Diving Academy picked up the Moose Moss Age Group Diving Coach of the Year, while Tom Gompf claimed the R. Max Ritter Award that is donated by the Ritter family and presented annually by United States Aquatic Sports to the organization or individual of a FINA member federation who has contributed the most to the advancement of understanding and goodwill among nation’s through international participation in amateur aquatic sports.
