US Synchro Selects First Olympic Team Members

COLUMBUS, Ohio, December 10. UNITED States Synchronized Swimming started its journey to Beijing on Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of the Ohio State University. The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Synchronized Swimming were held, naming the first athletes to be nominated to the 2008 United States Olympic Team.

Christina Jones (Fremont, Calif.) and Andrea Nott (San Jose, Calif.) of the Santa Clara Aquamaids swept the free and technical routines with an overall score of 95.501. The duet will also represent the United States in the upcoming FINA World Championships and the Pan American Games.

Jones and Nott were both members of the 2006 U.S. National Team and struck gold in the duet event at the Swiss Open this past season. On the major international competition scene, the pair took home fourth place at the FINA World Cup and FINA World Trophy Cup.

The 2007 Senior National Team Trials will be held December 11-12 at the McCorkle Aquatic Center, which will facilitate the naming of the additional members of the 2007 World Championship Team. The remaining members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team will be named April 28, 2007 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the U.S. National Championships.
