US Olympic Trials, Day 7 Finals: Jenny, Kara Lynn Qualify 1-2 for Tomorrow’s 50 Free Final

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 13. AFTER the excitement of the men’s 50 free final, anything else would be anticlimactic. Still, the women’s 50 free semifinals brought their share of excitement as 31 year-old Jenny Thompson, now a four-time Olympian, reprised her number one swim from the morning’s prelims. Kara Lynn Joyce, 100 meter champion, was second tonight in the semis as she was in the prelims.

Thompson improved from 25.15 to 25.11. Joyce touched in 25.23, followed by Sarah Wanezek, 25.33; Maritza Correia was next in 25.37; and Natalie Coughlin,and Colleen Lanne, tied at 25.39.

Haley Cope (25.46) and Amanda Weir (25.50) round out the field for tomorrow’s final.
