US Olympic Trials, Day 6 Prelims: Hall, Lezak Lead Qualifiers in the 50 Free

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 12. THE morning after Gary Hall, Jr. finished third in the 100 meter freestyle behind Jason Lezak and Ian Crocker, he came roaring off the blocks to post the fastest time in the 50m freestyle prelims, 22.19.

Not surprisingly, Lezak was second in 22.25, setting up another duel between the two rivals.

Ryan Wochomurka was second in 22.40, while Neil Walker was fourth in 22.56, just .01 ahead of Nick Brunelli.

It took 22.78 to make top eight, 23.24 to make top 16 and move on to the semifinal round. Ian Crocker was 15th in 23.21, just barely squeaking into the semis.
