US Masters Coverage Set To Increase On SwimmingWorldMagazine.com

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 10, SPORTS Publications International will begin providing more United States Masters Swimming (USMS) coverage on a regular basis. Under the direction of Swimming World Magazine's editorial staff, Emily Sampl will begin covering Masters events as an intern starting Sept. 1. Sampl comes to the swimming community with a journalism and competitive swimming background. She is looking forward to working with Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSC) to increase Swimming World Magazine's coverage, both in print and on the web.

"Sports Publications International has been a long-time supporter of USMS dating back to 1985," said Brent Rutemiller, Publisher of Swimming World Magazine and CEO of Sports Publications International. "When the decision was made by USMS to end its media relationship with Sports Publications International in September of 2004, so ended all the added value that came with that relationship. One of those values was the daily coverage of USMS swimming on our web site and the pioneering of SwimmingWorld.TV and Swimming World Radio. Prior to the termination of that relationship, every 10th story on our site featured a Masters-related topic. This constant media exposure gave USMS a world-wide profile and helped increase their membership. These added values, quite frankly, were taken for granted by the USMS decision makers at the time."

This past year, Swimming World Magazine waded back into more coverage of Masters content with the introduction of Mark Moore as an editor of SWIM (the Masters section of the magazine) and Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen as a monthly contributor. J.R. Rosania was brought on to provide dryland expertise. All three will remain with the magazine.

"Most of what we envisioned for USMS as part of our desire to continue supporting USMS has been put into place with a better magazine design and layout, and the launching of new media vehicles in TV and Radio," Rutemiller said. "We went forward without USMS. We are now prepared to ramp up USMS coverage and evaluate those benefits going forward, but it is still a two-way street. We are proud to have Emily be a part of the team leading us in this area."

Please help Swimming World Magazine give your local Masters swimmers the credit they deserve by sending your event calendar, newsletters and any breaking information to NewsMaster.
