Ursinus vs. Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania. November 22. FRESHMAN Drew Close and junior Keira Heath won two individual events apiece as the Gettysburg College swimming teams swept a Centennial Conference dual meet against Ursinus College in a match-up of unbeatens in the College Union Building Natatorium.

Gettysburg's men's team (4-0, 3-0 CC) claimed a 121-69 victory while the Bullet women (5-0, 4-0 CC) prevailed 126-69. Both Ursinus squads fell to 4-1 and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.

The Bullets won eight of nine events that were not exhibitioned on the men's side while the women's team captured all nine non-exhibitioned races.

Close touched first in the 50-free (22.95) and the 200-back (2:04.67), the team's fastest time of the year in the latter. Also winning individual events for the Bullets were senior Matt Rush in the 1,000-free (10:33.25), freshman Paul Besancon in the 200-free (1:53.59), sophomore Adam Taft in the 200-fly (2:03.51), sophomore Brian Kaehler in the 100-free (50.32) , and sophomore Donald Bennett in the 500-free (5:05.24). Taft's clocking was Gettysburg's best of the season in the 200-fly.

The men's 400-medley relay team of Close, Kaehler, Taft, and freshman Kyle Bauer also won in 3:45.42.

Heath claimed victories in both the 200-free (1:58.78) and the 200-fly (2:16.73), the team's fastest times of the year in both events. Other individual winners were senior Alyson Heller in the 1,000-free (11:18.47), sophomore Maggie Mulderrig in the 50-free (25.50), sophomore Maxine Kutner in the 200-IM (2:22.88), senior Emilie Youmans in the 100-free (55.79), and junior Alex Newman in the 500-free (5:30.83).

The women's team also opened the meet with a win in the 400-medley relay, as senior Caitlin Reilly, Kutner, Heath, and Youmans were timed at 4:13.97.
