Update: Tara Sloan Dies From Injuries

Canadian swimmer Tara Sloan died of massive injuries suffered when she lost control of her minivan March 3 on the Trans-Canada Hwy., east of Medicine Hat.

Tara Sloan's artistry in the pool and in living life was celebrated at her funeral yesterday.

As a large contingent of University of Calgary teammates in their distinctive red and gold jackets listened, Sloan was remembered as a person whose passion for life overflowed beyond the pool.

A banner celebrating her swim club's overall team triumph at the Canadian National Championships the day of her death was inscribed with the message, "we did it for you."

Sloan was a five-time national champion, a potential Olympic competitor and was to have joined the team for the national championships.
