Moldova’s Sergei Mariniuk, who has long trained at the Santa Clara Swim Club, swam a rare – if not unique – program of events at the World Championships in Perth. After swimming both the 5K (11th) and the 25K (21st) open water events, the 28 year old Mariniuk came back and made the consolation finals in the 200m IM (2:04.58, 12th). Salt or fresh, you just can’t keep Sergei out of the water.
