University of Missouri Adds Mark Gangloff, Julie Stupp and John Pontz to Swim Coaching Staff

COLUMBIA, Missouri, August 14. GREG Rhodenbaugh, the head swimming coach at the University of Missouri, announced three additions to his coaching staff recently, with Mark Gangloff, Julie Stupp and John Pontz making the move to central Missouri.

Gangloff comes to Columbia to work as assistant coach shortly after posting a speedy time in the 100 breaststroke at the Southeastern LSC Championships. Gangloff had been training at his alma mater, Auburn University, also working there as volunteer assistant coach.

Rhodenbaugh and Stupp have worked together before, but in a different capacity. Rhodenbaugh coached Stupp at the University of Arizona in the 2007-2008 season, when Stupp became an All-American in the 200 breaststroke, as well as the 200 and 400 individual medleys. Stupp would later make the final of the 400 IM at the 2008 Olympic Trials before switching to track for her fifth year at Arizona. She became the first woman to qualify for the NCAA championships in swimming and track. Stupp will work as assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming teams.

Pontz will be an associate head coach for the Tigers, a position he held at the University of Maryland before the teams there were cut after last season. Pontz also worked as an assistant coach at Northwestern University and Arizona State University. While working as a club coach for Rio Salado Swim Club in Arizona, Pontz coached Kyle Salyards to the 2000 Olympic team in the 200 breaststroke.
