University of Denver vs. Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, November2. THE CSU swimming and diving team held on to an undefeated record at Moby Pool. At the last home meet of the fall the Rams were able to lap the DU Pioneers for a 147.50-95.50 win.

The afternoon meet was harder than most this season as the Pioneers took first place in six of the 13 events.

"I had a feeling it would be a struggle," said Head Coach John Mattos. "We were fortunate in some races, but I am very pleased because this is a very good DU team."

Freshman Michelle Price had a bittersweet finish in the 100 Backstroke, as she placed second but achieved a lifetime best time of 58.28. Another close finish by Kathleen McCleary left a bitter taste after she came back on the 500 Free only to get second by five-hundredths of a second.

"We had a couple of time touch problems; Kathleen won the race with her body, but not with her lunge. But as it turned out we didn't need those events to win," said Mattos.

Divers Elyse Hall, Karin Knudson and Kristie Bowdler rounded out the top three spots in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Freshman divers Cori Swango and Jacqueline Bibee also competed but were exhibitioners in the meet.

"Every meet, this team rises to the occasion, no matter if it's home or away," Mattos said. "We've got the heart of the conference, and maybe DU overlooked us a little bit."

The dual meet came after a pair of Rams road victories and will set the tone for the many travel weeks to come. Of those traveling meets, BYU and Utah are challenges that the team is looking forward to competing with.

"BYU has some excellent athletes and they are the class of the conference," Mattos said.

Special thanks to Colorado State for contributing this report.
