Union College Leads NYSWCAA Championship

SYRACUSE, New York, February 16. AFTER the second day of competition, the Union women's swimming & diving team leads a 15 team field at the NYSWCAA Championship meet at Nottingham High School.

The Dutchwomen have 804.50 points, while Ithaca is second at 790 and Nazareth is third at 700.

In Friday's action, junior diver Molly Freeman (Barrington, IL/Barrington) won the one meter dive with a score of 393.00. The second place competitor had a score of 366.35.

The Dutchwomen won the 200 medley relay event with a time of 1:49.05. In order, Union was paced by Ashley Braniecki (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), Brianne Phillips (West Hartford, CT/Conard), Sydnie Wells (Bolton Landing, NY/Bolton Central) and Christa White (Washington, DC/Choate Rosemary Hall).

Union was second and third in the 400 IM, with Wells second at 4:38.50 and Mary Kate Baumann (Armonk, NY/Byram Hills) took third at 4:39.64. Mary Larkin (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) was second in the 100 fly at 59.01, and Phillips had atime of :07.40 for second place in the 100 breast. Amy Nestlerode (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was second in the 100 back at 1:00.34.
