UCLA vs. UC Davis, Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES, California, October 22. THE UCLA swimming and diving team opened the 2010-2011 season on Friday with two dual meet victories as they defeated UC Davis 165-121 and LMU 171.5-100.5 at the Spieker Aquatics Center. It was the first time UCLA had faced either team in a dual.

UCLA tallied 14 event wins during the tri-meet as freshman Ting Quah highlighted the team with double event wins. She was first in the 50 free (24.23) and 100 free (51.96) in her debut meet as a Bruin.

The 200 medley relay team of freshman Anna Senko, senior Brittany Beauchan, junior Yasi Jahanshahi and freshman Cynthia Fascella started the Bruins off in the win column as they touched first in a time of 1:43.68. Sophomore Kelsey Hall then won the 1000 free with a lifetime-best swim of 10:17.90.

Beauchan, the co-school record-holder in the 100 breast tallied the sole NCAA qualifier of the meet as she won the event in a time of 1:01.68.

Also posting wins on Friday were senior Sam Vanden Berge in the 200 free (1:51.91), freshman Jesse Bergman in the 100 back (57.53), sophomore Karoline Sanderud in the 200 fly (2:02.07), frosh Anna Senko in the 200 back (2:02.07), sophomore Briana Meyer in the 500 free (5:08.18), sophomore Stephanie Christofferson in the 100 fly (55.96) and senior Lauren Hall in the 200 IM (2:03.60).

In diving events, the Bruins swept the top four places on one-meter with senior Laura Winn leading the way with her first-place score of 241.80. Freshman Haley McNamara notched her first win as a college athlete as she was first on three-meter with a score of 264.08. She was also second on one-meter with a total of 240.00 points.

The Bruins will look to improve to 4-0 on Saturday when they face Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara at noon in the Spieker Aquatics Center.
