UCLA Dedicates New Scoreboard to Memory of Jim Toring

UCLA held its annual alumni water polo match with a special presentation bringing more meaning to the gathering of past and present Bruin athletes. A new scoreboard erected at the Sunset Recreation Pool on the UCLA campus was dedicated to the memory of UCLA’s Jim Toring, who died last year in a freak bus accident. The accident happened while Toring was traveling with the United States National Water Polo Team in France.

UCLA assistant men’s and women’s water polo coach Adam Krikorian spoke on behalf of the alumni followed by current UCLA head coach Guy Baker who spoke on behalf of UCLA.

The day was special to Toring’s former teamates and the current UCLA staff. Krikorian: “Most alumni games are special but this one was even more so because with the scoreboard ceremony we played for Jimmy. With respects to his water polo skills, he was the vital recruit and player to take the program to the next level. We were always close, but when we added Jimmy, he put us over the top. On the personal side, for those of us fortunate to know him, the thing we will remember most was his ever-present smile.”
