UC-San Diego Teams Lead Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference

LONG BEACH, California, February 9. THE UC San Diego men's and women's swimming and diving teams had an enormous day to finish the second day of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships in first place on Thursday night. The women's team leapfrogged six teams to end the night in first place in the team competition, leading second place by 53 points. The men's team also made a jump, finishing the night in first place with a 149 point lead over second place, with two more days left of the Championships.

WOMEN'S Meet
In the 500 FR, SR Andrea Lippin (5:07.11) rebounded from a disappointing prelim swim to take first in the consolation heat, finishing 9th overall, and dropping over seven seconds from her morning swim.

In the 200 IM, four Tritons swam in the championship heat, with three more in the consolation heat and an additional swimmer in the bonus consolation heat. In the bonus heat, SR Emily Starkie placed 24t overall (2:14.25p), which set the stage for the 3 in the consolation heat. SO Jennifer Sims (2:11.65)(‘B' cut), FR Tori Edmiston (2:12.38) and SR Lauren O'Neill (2:12.48) placed 12th, 14th and 15th respectively, with Sims' and Edmiston's swims considerable lifetime bests. In finals, SR Susan Bell (2:06.89), SO Shannon Simonds (2:08.91), FR Karla Holman (2:11.43p) and SO Kendall Bohn (2:09.87p) placed 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th respectively, with Bell's time an ‘A' cut and the rest ‘B' cuts.

In the 50 FR, SR Emily Harlan was the lone Triton in finals, with SO Aubrey Panis, SR Liz Whiteley and SO Katie Baier in the consolation heat, and SR Jenna Muenter in the bonus consols heat. Muenter placed 24th (25.09p), with Whiteley (24.48), Panis (24.50) and Baier (24.31p) placing 9th, 10th and 12th. In the championship heat, Harlan (23.78) placed 2nd.

In the 200 FR Relay, the team of Panis (24.49), Whiteley (24.20), Baier (23.95) and Harlan (23.25) showed UCSD is the fastest team in the conference, taking 1st in an ‘A' time of 1:35.89. Their time strengthens their national top time status.
MEN'S Meet

In the Men's 1 Meter diving competition, the Tritons showed their strength on the boards. NCAA qualifier JR Andrew Skewes placed 2nd, FR Kevin Sullivan placed 5th, NCAA qualifier JR Daniel Gordh placed 7th, JR Aaron Cantu placed 8th and SO Jeff Bryant placed 9th, giving UCSD a

In the 500 FR, JR JP Oliver (4:42.70p) and FR Greg Goodell (4:41.89) qualified for the championship heat, finishing 7th and 8th respectively. Both of their times were ‘B' cuts. SO Artur Kubalski (4:44.44p) swam in the consolation heat, placing 15th with SR Jacob Dong (4:48.63p) and JR Ryan Kloos (4:57.11p) finishing 20th and 22nd in the bonus consolation heat.

In the bonus consolation heat FR Taylor Cox (2:00.85) took first, finishing 17th overall. In the 200 IM, 4 Tritons swam in the championship heat; SO Steven Hardy (1:56.53), SO Dan Gluvers (1:57.34), SR Jesse Marin (1:58.97) and FR Andy Islip (1:59.06p) placed 3rd, 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.

In the 50 Free, SR Tim Fuller (20.70), FR Dan Perdew (20.64p), and FR Todd Langland (21.38) all swam in finals, finishing 2nd, 4th and 8th respectively. Fuller and Perdew's times were both under the ‘A' standard, with Langland's a ‘B'. Perdew and Fuller are now ranked 2nd and 3rd All-Time at UCSD in the event, and are ranked 3rd and 4th nationally. JR Evan Hsiao (21.69) placed 15th in the consolation heat, while SO Devin Ancona (22.24p) placed 23rd in the bonus consols heat.

And in the last event of the evening, the team of Perdew (20.85), Langland (20.73), Hsiao (21.34) and Fuller (20.20) followed the womens lead, and left no doubt as to who the fastest team in the conference is, taking 1st in an ‘A' time of 1:23.12, which ranks them 5th nationally.
