UC Irvine, Utah Split

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 11. THE UC Irvine Anteater women's team dominated the Utah Utes with a 142-81 win while the Anteater men lost to the Utah men 161-81 at the Anteater Aquatics Complex on Friday.

The Anteater women got off to a quick start with the relay team of junior Kim Do (Milpitas HS), sophomore Lara Bjargardottir (Reykjavik, Iceland), freshman Ashley DePaul (Villa Park HS) and sophomore Katina Economides (Laguna Hills HS) breaking a two year old school record by almost two seconds in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:52.59.

Kim Do would also win the 50 free (24.42) and the 200 back (2:04.76) for the Anteaters. Junior Alexis Sheridan (Crescenta Valley HS) won both the 1000 free (10:15.39) and the 500 free (4:59.49).

On the men's side, the Utes dominated the 'Eaters winning 11 of the 13 events. A pair of showdowns between senior Kareem Adnan (Albuquerque, NM/El Dorado HS) of UCI and Eric Jorgensen of Utah in the 1000 free and the 500 free highlighted the afternoon. In the 1000 free, Jorgensen edged out Adnan by two hundreths of a second with a time of 9:41.01, Adnan finished with a 9:41.03. In the 500 free, Adnan edged Jorgensen by four hundreths of a second with a time of 4:42.38; Jorgensen came in with a 4:42.42.
