UC Irvine Distance Invitational

IRVINE, California, January 5. THE UC Irvine women and the UNLV men won the UC Irvine/Ayres Hotel & Suites Distance Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The Anteater women won the Distance Invitational for the first time since 2005 and have won four of the past six titles. UCI finished with 166 points ahead of second place Washington State which had 121 points. UNLV was third with 111 points.

Sophomore Lyndsay DePaul continued to dominate as she broke the UCI record in the 1000 free with a meet record time of 9:55.29. DePaul also won the 500 free with a meet record time of 4:52.79. Her time in the 1000 free is the 10th fastest of the season nationally.

The Rebel men won the Distance Invitational for the first time, ending UCI's streak of five straight wins. UNLV previously won the Sprint Invitational in 2006. UNLV won with 218 points, UCI was second with 201 points. Cal State Northridge was third with 98 points.

Senior Eddie Erazo won the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.82 and the 1650 free in a time of 16:09.43 for the 'Eaters.

The UCI/Ayres Hotel & Suites Invitationals conclude Sunday with the Relay Invitational with a 10:00 a.m. start at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
