LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, December 6. THE Missouri State women's swimming and diving team claimed the championship trophy Saturday evening, after two days of competition at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Christmas Invitational. The women tallied an impressive 997 team points to earn first place in the invite. Henderson State claimed second with 635.5 team points, Ouachita Baptist took third-pace with 446.5 team points, University of Incarnate Word placed fourth with 441.5 points, host UALR took fifth with 280.5 team points and Hendrix College Swimming finished last with 239 team points.

Friday night's finals were eventful for the Missouri State swim squad with five Bears claiming individual event wins. Hilary Morrow earned the first win in the 500 freestyle clocking a time of 5:06.06. Teammates Michelle Schaefer and Katharina Voekel took second and third in the event with times of 5:12.66 and 5:14.44.

In the 200 backstroke, the Bears claimed the top three spots as Jordan Hawkins (2:00.00), Francy Palma (2:04.91) and Alison Duewer (2:11.99) finished one, two and three, respectively.

Sophomore Chelsea Dirks-Ham claimed first-place in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall at 56.17. A Henderson State competitor finished in second with Missouri State's Breanna Hollar finishing close behind in third (58.41).

Freshman Brianna Willoughby, Morrow, and Rene Smith claimed first, second and third in the 400 individual medley. Willoughby clocked a time of 4:34.99, Morrow finished with a time of 4:39.07 and Smith a few second behind, touched the wall at 4:45.72.

Hawkins claimed second in the 50 free with a time of 23.93 and Fran Moody claimed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.87.

The 400 medley relay squad took first as Hawkins, Moody, Dirks-Ham and Matana Wellman combined for a time of 3:52.75.

In the one meter diving competition, junior Heather Fulton took first with a score of 264.95. Chelsea Ray claimed third with 242.65 points and freshman Elizabeth Chollet placed fourth with a total score of 196.30.

Saturday's finals were just as exciting as Fridays, with seven Bears claiming individual titles. In the 200 freestyle, Dirks-Ham claimed first with a time of 155.89. Wellman finished in a close second with a time of 1:56.41 and Hollar took third clocking a time of 1:58.76.

Palma earned an individual victory in the 100 backstroke touching the wall at 59.23 and Moody claimed a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24. 16.

Hawkins and Willoughby each added two individual wins in the 100 free and the 200 individual medley. The Bears claimed the top four spots in both the 200 butterfly event and the 1650 freestyle event. Dirks-Ham won the 200 fly and Morrow claimed the number one spot in the mile.

On the three-meter board, Fulton topped the field with a score of 226.00 while Ray finished in a close second-place with a score of 225.70.
